Personal Introduction:
Rose immigrated to China in 2000 and has been working in Shanghai since her arrival from the UK, where she previously ran a Taiji school and cultural learning centre near Cambridge.
Rose was born in Yorkshire, which is in the north of England, but grew up in the south, in a small town between London and Cambridge.
In the UK, she taught physical fitness, yoga and taiji at the martial arts school she ran, also teaching at children’s special needs schools, adult education programmes, and mainstream middle schools, introducing Taiji’s health benefits and other aspects of Chinese culture and philosophy.
Rose loves Chinese culture and has been an avid practitioner of Taiji and other Chinese martial arts for over 30 years. She has travelled and taught in many countries and helped spread Chinese culture internationally. Her love of Taiji and cultural exchange has brought her into contact with many wonderful people, and even afforded her introductions to the late Queen Elizabeth ll, as well as Chinese President Xi Jin Ping!
Rose also loves animals, but doesn’t have any pets at present, as she is very busy, but has kept a dog, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, gerbils, birds (a cockatoo & love bird), turtles, snakes, and lizards among others. She once raised a wild squirrel that she rescued after it fell from a tree. It was about 5 weeks old and drank goat's milk, and liked nuts and apples. She also likes to foster dogs and puppies for animal charities.
Main Experience:
Rose has worked at Shanghai University for almost 23 years, teaching English for the Foreign Language Department; as well as conducting inhouse English training for Chinese teachers at SHU and French graduate students. She is passionate about offering students real opportunities to gain confidence and enjoyment in utilizing their English language, raise their proficiency levels, develop personal and social skills, plus gain understanding of other cultures.
Rose is also heavily involved in both the local Chinese and overseas communities through her own cultural centre and cultural exchange ventures.
